Custom Wray Brown Liveaboard Steel Trawler

For Sale – $120,000USD O.N.O.

“Perspective” is a custom Wray Brown Steel Trawler originally built in Canada in 1985 as a wreckage and salvage vessel; then completely overhauled in 2006 to be a comfortable, liveaboard cruiser. The overhaul focused on creating a simple, easy to maintain vessel perfectly suited for a couple to liveaboard.

Purchased in Grenada in June 2025, by two Australian engineers, extensive updates were completed to modernise and ensure all the onboard systems were at a liveaboard standard before starting to make its way back to the Bahamas / USA. This boat truly is “ready to go” – and ready to continue adventuring. Moving back to Australia, we will be leaving her fully stocked with every tool, spare part and toy we have used over our year onboard!

With a 3.5ft draft, this vessel is perfectly sized for exploring the Bahamas, the intercoastal waterways and the great loop. Or, take her back through the Caribbean to see the greater antilles, the leeward and windward islands on the adventure of a lifetime (:

Onboard Living

Living onboard is very comfortable with a large V berth for sleeping, and optional inserts to make the berth full width. Modern black LED reading lamps with USB outlets enhance the functionality of the space. Updated Sirocco II Quiet Fans in the V Berth and Galley provide cool air even on still nights. Accompanied by a full height standalone shower and separate electric head with sink and cupboards, this is a very spacious bedroom on board.

Stepping up into the pilot house provides magnificent views all around. A solid pilot chair and accompanying bench seat are excellent on passages and at anchor. Sliding doors on either side with two overhead hatches ensures plenty of natural light and ventilation. All windows and hatches are reinforced with metal frames. Walking around the side decks feels incredibly safe in any sea state with high gunwales and railings and a firm, wide side deck all around.

Aft of the pilot house is a delightful saloon with a long bench seat and table, entertainment area and a tidy galley; with optional work bench seating at large monitor on a Versa Mount or sit back and enjoy as a movie screen. The saloon is light and airy with three windows per side, a window on the aft wall and two windows on the hinged doors, in addition to a dorade box on the roof.

The large back deck is the prime feature of this boat with a full length bimini providing a gorgeous, shaded, multi-use area. Workout, entertain or relax in a hammock – all of the above! Cool off with a dip in the ocean straight from the swim platform; and easily return aboard with the accompanying fold out swim ladder. The dinghy davits with dual winches smoothly lifts the inflatable rib out of the water singlehandedly. The aft dock box provides propane storage with rubber control line and emergency fuel shutoff. The starboard dock box provides engine ventilation, fresh water deck wash and the shore power receptacle. Lastly, entertaining on the rooftop is very comfortable and enjoyable and the perfect spot for sundowners on the comfortable padded seating.

Storage on this vessel is astounding. Firstly, with storage in all the expected places; under the V-berth, clothing storage cupboard, under the pilot house bench seat and within the saloon bench seat. Then, under the pilot house floor is a large and versatile storage area and easy access to many of the systems; whilst the engine bay boasts a large thru-floor accessible storage shelf for all the engine parts and spares you could ever want. The main wow factor is the lazarette with an enormous dry storage area under the back deck for all the fenders, lines and outdoor equipment you could ever dream of owning.

Hull & Decks

All-welded steel construction about the keel, frames and longitudinal stringers. Hull had fully replaced steel plating (5/32″) where needed to restore hull thickness throughout in July 2025. Fully stripped and sanded back in July 2025, with 2 layers of Sea Hawk Tuff Stuff primer; and 2 full coats of Island 77 Blue Antifoul (3rd coat around waterline and leading edges). New Hull Boot stripe (Ocean Blue) applied. Finished with all new anodes* (10x ZHC-3) across hull, propeller and rudder.

Decks are chequered plates with anti-skid laid over conventional steel welded deck beams. 24″ Bulwarks are solid steel plates welded with scuppers and clearing ports. The pilot house and saloon cabins are welded steel plates over conventional framing. The engine seating, stern tube, rudder trunk and other component parts are all steel-welded. Underwater, there is a full keel with skeg and a supported rudder for added stability in heavy seas.

The exterior hull is raked to the bow with a moderate overhange, light to moderate chined bilges with a slightly curved square transom. Twin 3″ Samson posts located on both corners of the transom in addition to a 5″ Sampson post on the bow.

Spray insulation across entire hull with foam insulation under flooring ensures the vessel remains at a comfortable temperature in both hot and cold climates.

Why now?

We took a mid-career break to try life in the slow-lane; when we found the trawler in Grenada it was absolutely perfect for us! Our goal was to bring her north towards the Bahamas and enjoy the scenery along the way! Unfortunately, our wonderful year living aboard is reaching an end and it’s time for us to think about moving back to work and reality… so with heavy hearts – we are looking for new owners for our floating home.

Currently located in the Bahamas we will continue shifting north and then over to the USA over the coming months and are happy to sell anywhere along the way!
